not sure who of all of you still keep up with me and read my blog but here goes.. i realized i’m a little late. and i think my previous entries were too concise if there’s such thing…
SINGAPORE
my impression of Singapore is… great food. i landed on friday after an early flight and went straight to meet up with the girls and H for lunch at… what i would describe as an outdoor food court. we had noodles, fried tofu, chicken soup.. the works! after lunch we dropped off my luggage at P’s house (thx for being a great host!) and then H took S and i to Mt. Faber. we rode some clean cable cars up the mountain, had a coffee, and then hiked (walked) back down. Then the three of us hailed a cab and headed to Little India where we had the famous Fish Head Soup. Sounds scary but basically it’s like curry with a fish head in it. Still sounds scary, but fish cheeks are like the juiciest meat on the whole fish! i also tried a fish eye for the first time as the result of a dare (yes, i give in to peer pressure at 24). my advice, don’t do it. it tasted literally like chalk. after that, what i like to call second lunch, we headed back to P’s house to rest and shower before going back out to dinner. (yes, when i travel the highlights on the itinerary are always meals… of which there are plenty) at dinner i stuck to a liquid diet of rum and coke since i was still full from the fish head encounter, but i did try some butter crab and fried prawns—at which time i wished i was still hungry. after dinner we went home to change before going out, which was about the time i realized that while i had packed running shoes, i had completely forgotten to pack high heels. so off i went for the club in a LBD, fake lashes… and black havaianas. thank goodness our friends know ppl because they literally almost didn’t let me in! friday night was super fun, i always love partying in foreign countries because there’s an inhibiting feeling of “nobody knows me and i will never see you guys again” that really does wonders for letting loose.
the next day we woke up with little inkling of how the night ended, and i immediately got into my bikini and headed for the pool. isn’t it nuts how being in southeast asia you can tan in december? trust me it’s possible because after an hour i was tinged pink! i couldn’t believe it, sunburnt in december? not to mention the fact that in one week i’d be leaving for the blistering cold of northern california! trippy. since we all had such a late night before it took everyone ages to wake up and get our butts to lunch but man, it was worth the wait! traditional singaporean food like fried rice, fried rice noodles, fried tofu, veggies, hainan chicken—i’m literally drooling as we speak. after lunch the boys ditched us because the girls wanted to go to A&F’s grand opening, where a zillion gorgeous half-naked dudes were on display. i felt a bit like a pre-teen standing there but i ran into L who i haven’t seen since college so that was pretty cool! after that adventure we went back to P’s house and i got a quick workout in before changing and heading out for the night. we had dinner at an outdoor night market, and the big highlight for me was the roti prata! it’s like a malaysian crepe stuffed with cheese and mushrooms and ripped off and dipped in peanut sauce—see drooling comment above. i ate an entire one all by myself, quite a credit to my appetite, along with chicken satay and other malaysian snacks. then, the big event: ZOUKOUT! thanks to A, we all got VIP tickets so we just walked right past all the lines (there were a lot of them and i dont’ even know what they were all for! A very graciously saved us a table in the VIP section so the ladies and i partied the night away to the tunes of AVIICI, Armin Van Buren, and Bob Sinclair in our bikinis in Sentosa (manmade beach) in the warm December weather!! ahh…..
we left ZOUK around 6am and though i tried to stay awake (to catch my noon flight to Bali) i fell asleep at 8am. S called me at 9am to make sure i was awake and getting ready to go to the airport, but of course i spoke two words, hung up, and went back to sleep. responsible J had planned to be at the airport at 10:15am, but of course when i woke up it was 10:22am and so i freaked out, put on clothes, threw everything into my duffel bag and ran out the door (yes, you read that correctly. nowhere in that 5-minute span did i brush my teeth or wash my face. i think P still has my blue bikini bottoms..). i hailed and cab and asked him to fly like the wind, and of course when he asked me what terminal i was flying out of i was like …………………………………………. but thankfully it all went smoothly and i even lucked out when i begged the ppl in line to let me go to the front of the check-in line since i was late (they probably let me out of fear since i probably looked like death and smelled like booze and sweat). made it onto my flight, which was hell since i was exhausted, hungover (possibly still drunk) and on AirAsia—which, by the way, has possibly the. most. cramped. seats. in the entire airline industry. so when i landed in Bali completely dicombobulated (sp?) S laughed at me bc i looked like a dirty Singaporean farm child.
BALI
Bali was a dream! the villa we stayed in was so gorgeous. and every meal was a foodie paradise! BIG TY to S for allowing me to experience the most relaxed state of my self that i will probably ever get. sat next to tyra banks (yes, you read that correctly) at dinner and it was out of the WORLD weird! i lived in LA for four years in college and never glimpsed a celebrity. and then in bali…. the weather was gorgeous and i got a sweet baby tan in between clocking work hours and stuffing myself silly. highly recommend bali if you have the $$$ to dish out for an all-star experience (if not i’ve heard it’s super overrated). leaving bali was sad, but i had to head back to taipei for a day to show my face at the office and pack up to head home to beautiful sweet lovely CALIFORNIA!!!!
*author’s note: i apologize for sounding like a child on crack cocaine. i’m currently working on my third cup of coffee today.
